Tracy Messer will be portraying Calvin Coolidge in this interactive history program with the Newbury Historical Society and the Newbury Public Library. Born in Vermont, Calvin Coolidge served as Governor of Massachusetts and Vice President before becoming our nation’s 30th President on August 2, 1923. Famous for his blend of Yankee wit and wisdom, “Silent Cal” had surprising connections to many towns here in the Monadnock region: Keene, Chesterfield, Fitzwilliam, Marlborough, Stoddard, Peterborough, Walpole, Hancock, Dublin, Marlow and Gilsum.

You’ll laugh as you learn about the fascinating stories about Calvin Coolidge’s classmates, relatives, and road trips:

• Which Mayor of Keene is descended from one of Coolidge’s classmates?

• What town welcomed first lady Grace Coolidge to their sesquicentennial?

• Where was the intersection that led more than one US president astray?

• Who was the Monadnock artist that made a portrait of Calvin, Jr.?
