The Night Tiger, set in 1930s Malaysia, weaves together threads from the many lives of its inhabitants: Ji Lin, an apprentice dressmaker and dancehall girl longing for a better future, Ren, a young houseboy charged with a task by his dying master, and William Acton, a philandering physician trying to escape his past. Tied together by superstition, and an increasingly dangerous mystery, the novel draws us through the lush world of post-colonial Malaysia.
