The library maintains a collection of audiobooks on CDs that may be borrowed by patrons. Downloadable audiobooks are available from the following sites. Downloadable audiobooks are generally available in MP3 and WMA formats and can be played on portable audio devices such as Sandisk and ipod players.

NH Overdrive

Description: As a patron of Newbury Public Library you may download copyrighted audiobooks from Overdrive. Your library patron number must be used to access the site. Obtain your number from a librarian.

An application, available on the Overdrive site, must be used to download audiobooks. Instructions for obtaining the application are provided on the site. If you have difficulty installing or using the application a librarian may be able to help you.

Advantages: Recent popular copyrighted audiobooks are included in the Overdrive collection.

Disadvantages: Audiobook lending time is limited, typically for two weeks.

Description: Well organized collection with ability to view by category.

Advantages: . Includes some recent releases. Includes ratings


Description: A large collection of fiction, non-fiction, and children's audiobooks.

Advantages: Excellent ability to view by category.

Project Gutenberg

Description: Collection includes both human-read and machine-read audiobooks.

Advantages: Includes foreign language audiobooks.

Disadvantages: Selection is only by browsing for authors or titles - not by category.
